Why “The Stillness”?
Music is my life.
I have a family, job, hobbies, and other stuff…but music is what makes me sane. This is my outlet for random and organized thoughts, mine and others I find interesting. “The Stillness” comes from a song that started with a single thought (as my songs often do). In my busy life, when do I take time to stop and listen to the silence? How much time of each day am I willing to give to solely to listening to God? Can I hear Him above the loudness of my day? I wake up to the noise of an alarm. I brush my teeth, eat breakfast. I start my car and automatically the radio starts blaring music. I get to work and it’s nonstop movement until I clock out (figuratively speaking). I get back in my car and listen to talk radio on the way home. Maybe it’s good, “Christian” talk radio. I come home to my family and play with my daughter. I talk with my wife over dinner about our day. Then, I turn on the game or whatever TV show is on that night and we talk some more. Finally, it’s time for bed, only to start all over again the next day. But when do I listen? In response, I wrote a simple, worshipful chorus to pose the question of being ready and available to God.
Can you feel Him in the stillness?
Can you see Him in the dark?
Do you hear Him in the silence?
Do you know what’s in His heart?
I do not have verses, or even music yet. This song may never get recorded. It might not be meant to, and I’m all right with that. As you follow alongside me throughout my journey, have you taken the time to be still and listen to God’s voice? I encourage you to get away from the music (even mine!), the TV, or whatever well-intentioned “distractions” you encounter each day and be still to listen. You may not hear anything at first, but give it time. If you wait and pray, He will reply.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I do, so feel free to say hi.
